Manufactured in Bulgaria during the second half of the 20th century, these machines were produced by the Typewriters Works – Maritsa state enterprise, located in Plovdiv. Their purpose was to supply the domestic market and other socialist countries with reliable, locally made typewriters that could rival Western brands.
Born during a period of industrial expansion in the 1950s and 60s, Typewriters Works machines were inspired by German engineering models—especially Continental and Olympia—while keeping a distinctly Bulgarian character: functional, sturdy, and built to last.
